The Editor presents this little volume to the American public in the belief that it will fill a demand. He has been asked many times for just such information as the book gives. He has endeavoured, briefly, to present in an A B C way the methods of the men and the mechanism of Wall Street.
He has tried to avoid statistics and details that are too technical for those other than the initiated. He makes no apology for so extensively quoting from Mr White, Mr Muhleman, Mr Jevons, Mr Oss and others, as what they have to say on the subjects they respectively discuss could not be better said.
This is in no sense a book treating of "How to Speculate Successfully," for much nonsense and very little common sense has been written on that subject; nor is it a history of Wall Street, for such a book would of necessity be much larger; nor is it a book for the busy men of Wall Street, who know, perhaps better than the Editor, all the facts herewith presented; but it is what it purports to be — the A B C of Wall Street.
