I set out to collect books about one of my favorite figures — alongside Marcus Aurelius and Abraham Lincoln — Napoleon, from Archive.org. I could not believe how many classic books exist about him. There are volumes on his early life, his friends, his adopted son; books investigating the illness that led to his death; works drawn directly from the diaries and memoirs of people who knew him; even novels inspired by his story. I gathered titles spanning all these perspectives, each carrying its own fascinating ideas. I also used AI to help me summarize and review them.
Looking at this collection, I’ve come to call it “Napoleomania” — I’m not sure if that word actually exists, but it feels like the perfect way to describe everything I’ve discovered.
