| A new English and Spanish vocabulary |
This book is bilingual vocabulary resource designed to help learners of English and Spanish. The “alphabetical” part organizes words in dictionary style, while the “analogical” part groups them by themes or concepts, making it easier to see relationships between words. This kind of work was intended for students, translators, and scholars at the turn of the 20th century, offering both direct word lists and contextual groupings.
From perfece
PThe New English and Spanish Vocabulary has been composed on the lines of similar works already issued in the same Series, and at the request of the publishers the arrangement is exactly that of the New English and French Vocabulary by Messrs. Lallemand and Ludwig, though modified in a slight degree to suit the peculiar requirements of the case. Thus the subjects, which embrace all the chief departments of knowledge, are arranged in alpha- betical order under fifty-six heads.
The English terms proper to each subject are given in alphabetical order also, so as to facilitate reference. Under the headings "Industry," "Manufactures," Tools," etc., are included many words which will ordinarily not be found outside Technological Dictionaries ; and the scientific terminology has been brought fully up to date.
Under " Geography " will be found a list of more
than 500 names of countries and towns, to which are added, in most cases, the corresponding adjectives used in speaking of the inhabitants. The
latter are frequently very irregular in formation.
Fernando de Arteaga y Pereira, published in 1902.
