This book will be teach what is needed to be good manager.
Introduction
Management in industry today pulses with new energy. It is being reshaped both scientifically and ethically, weighed against standards of analysis and a reinvigorated social conscience.
As industry grows more complex, management absorbs scientists, artists, teachers, and engineers, offering wider responsibilities and demanding greater expertise.
Steering the “barque of industry” through stormy seas has become a task of immense responsibility — a challenge that defines the modern age of management.
It is in the belief that the direction of industry by that function broadly termed Management is a matter primarily of principles, both scientific and ethical, and only secondarily of the detail consequent upon the application of those principles that this book has come to be written. What follows, therefore, is not to be regarded as an exposition of any particular branch of Management, but rather as an attempt to define the purpose, the lines of growth, and the principles which shall govern the practice of Management as a whole.
