So - That - ซะ​จน​-    Thai ​important lesson 

 I am studying Thai Langauge by reading Comics books so when I find useful expression. I would share for myself and for others who are interested in Learning Thai language. That won't affect the main purpose of this blog to provide best free books from archive and other public resources. 

 

 ซะจน (sá jon) is a Thai particle that indicates a consequence or a degree so extreme that it leads to a certain result. It essentially means "to the point that," "so...that," or "until."

Here are some examples to illustrate its use:

1. ร้อนซะจนเหงื่อไหล (rón sá jon ngùea lái)

 * ร้อน (rón): hot

 * ซะจน (sá jon): to the point that

 * เหงื่อ (ngùea): sweat

 * ไหล (lái): to flow, to run

 * Translation: It's so hot that the sweat is running. / It's hot to the point that I'm sweating.

2. เขาทำงานหนักซะจนไม่มีเวลาพักผ่อน (khǎo tham ngaan nàk sá jon mâi mii wee-laa phák-phòn)

 * เขา (khǎo): he/she/they

 * ทำงานหนัก (tham ngaan nàk): to work hard

 * ซะจน (sá jon): so much that

 * ไม่มีเวลาพักผ่อน (mâi mii wee-laa phák-phòn): to not have time to rest

 * Translation: He works so hard that he doesn't have time to rest. / He works hard to the point that he has no time for relaxation.

3. เธอสวยซะจนทุกคนมอง (thooe sǔai sá jon thúk khon mong)

 * เธอ (thooe): she

 * สวย (sǔai): beautiful

 * ซะจน (sá jon): so beautiful that

 * ทุกคน (thúk khon): everyone

 * มอง (mong): to look, to watch

 * Translation: She is so beautiful that everyone is looking. / She is beautiful to the point that everyone stares.

4. ฝนตกหนักซะจนน้ำท่วมถนน (fǒn tòk nàk sá jon náam thûam thanǒn)

 * ฝนตกหนัก (fǒn tòk nàk): to rain heavily

 * ซะจน (sá jon): so heavily that

 * น้ำท่วม (náam thûam): to flood

 * ถนน (thanǒn): road, street

 * Translation: It rained so heavily that the road flooded. / It rained heavily to the point that the street was flooded.

5. เขากินเยอะซะจนพุงกาง (khǎo kin yóe sá jon phung gaang)

 * เขา (khǎo): he

 * กินเยอะ (kin yóe): to eat a lot

 * ซะจน (sá jon): so much that

 * พุงกาง (phung gaang): belly is sticking out, having a food baby

 * Translation: He ate so much that his belly is sticking out. / He ate a lot to the point that he has a food baby.

As you can see, "ซะจน" connects an action or quality with its extreme consequence. It's a very useful particle to express intensity in Thai!
